Activities & Curriculum

At Stepping Stones we believe that children learn best in a fun, happy and relaxed environment and the emphasis is put on learning through play, with the opportunity to participate in more structured activities.

We provide a range of stimulating toys and equipment to ensure that all children have the opportunity to develop. All our activities and equipment are related to the age and development for each group of children. We also ensure that children with special needs and/or disabilities are included. All children have the opportunity each day to participate in creative play, messy play, structured activities (according to age of child), free play and outdoor play.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage, a framework set out by the Department of Education, which recognises the overall nature of development and learning of children from birth to 5 years old, incorporating all seven areas of learning from which activities are planned and assessed, in particular paying attention to progression.

There is an emphasis on children learning through interaction with people and exploring the world around them.  EYFS identifies the individuality, efforts and achievements of children and recognises that learning and development take place during each different activity, encouraging them to be lifelong learners and allowing them to develop to their full potential.
